Back to me by Josh Matheson

I was kinda hoping for a feature but I don’t know. also, you probably want to turn down your speakers a bit.

Alrighty I think it’s time for one of my lengthy reviews cracks fingers
Bear with me as I’m still a bit rusty but if you want the short end I would say that this overall is a good song, not kaveman-tier but good nonetheless. Personally I don’t care much for the self-praise in the tags and song title but I still consider this feature-worthy, enough so that I’ll nominate it myself. It’s nice to listen to a completed work after so long.
Without further ado, on to my review:

Intro (Sheet 1):
I have to say this intro to me was a step in the wrong direction. I always disapprove of consecutive sheets in a song as it nearly always touches communities most common phobia, repetition. And in this case. it really is. The chords end up being samey and while the acoustic guitar and strings do mesh well, they become completely lost and forgotten in the next sheet. Overall Score: 1/5
Bridge (Sheet 2):
Alright so this sheet falls for the second worst offense, that of a failed transition. I can’t say that this sheet should be the intro either because it has too much going on. Overall though it does set the tone of the song well and has some interesting points, such as the drumming and what I thought to be a good combo with the Nice #1 and Male Vox instruments (though these were a little too quiet under the guitars). Other than that, again a somewhat forgettable sheet. Overall Score: 3/5
Chorus (Sheets 0/3):
Or at least what I assume is the chorus. At this point the song takes a turn for the better, with a super catchy hook and wonderful composition. I think it may be a little too loud, which causes clipping and therefore some volume issues, but other than that it’s two great sheets imo. Overall Score: 4.5/5
Rehash (Sheets 2/0/3):
Repetition is bad! Nothing else to add here Overall Score: 3.5/5
Bridge 2 (Sheet 6/5):
These two sheets are great. I love the chord progression a ton, and they really work in this song well, taking the energy down a notch and introducing new concepts and sound into the mix. The only real problem I had was a little dissonance (the third sin of all notessimo!) with the fender and the electric piano but that is overshadowed by the awesome bass work. Drums were brilliant as well Overall Score: 3.5/5
Solo (7/8):
7 is good because the solo is good, but 8 kinda ruins it with the repeat and introduction of the metal guitar trying to steal the show with blandness. Overall, not bad though Overall Score: 4/5
Chorus 3:
No score here, didn’t want to mess up the review’s overall score
Ending (10/9):
A good highlight of the song, the end is a good way to show off the background without being repetitve. What really makes this sheet so wonderful is that the tempo shift is so large, 70 bpm are lost at the blink of an eye and you managed to make it feel totally natural, which is a big plus. The ending of Sheet 9 is rather bad not enough for my rating to go down overly much. Overall Rating: 4.25/5
In Summary:
Don’t let it go to your head, but you’ve got a fine song on your hands here. With a lot of refinement on your music production skills (that being making all the stuff sound good together without competing too much) and just a bit better composition in a few places you’d be set my friend.
Total of all Ratings: 3.6/4.5
(to those who don’t understand my rating system, I never thought I would hear a song worthy of a 5, thus the highest attainable rating is 4.5/5)
Score after arithmetic: 3.6/4.5 is equal to 4/5
(though I rated 5 stars officially, btw)

thanks! I’ll work on what you said.
