Wow, I actually wasn’t expecting to be done this fast, and this good either. It’s a bit on the short side, though. Oh well, it’s here now, and that’s all that matters.
I’mma pass on the baton to my man MellifluousMelodyMaker. You can remove the fade-outs of the flutes at the end if you want, so you can transition more easily into your part.
Anyway, I’m gonna get back to what I do best: lurking. sEEYA
Eh might as well be the one to say it… you could’ve done better. The previous part was building up and building up, and then that energy didn’t go anywhere it felt so unsatisfying. The intro to your part felt just overall really empty because of the previous part. Also sound effects can’t just be the only support to your part for so long if the part has generally no dynamic contrast. It really became an issue especially when the Reverse Cymbal transitioned to the drums and bass, this new section still felt like it had the same amount of energy as your intro so it was unsatisfying as well. The bass line could’ve worked, but only if there was some sort of interesting melody or maybe some accompaniment, actually this whole part suffered from the lack of accompaniment/background chords or just SOMETHING to make it not empty. I think the drum fills were not so bad, but it was bland due to, again, no dynamic contrast. The guitar just popped up, feeling like “Don’t mind me, it is what it is, just deal with it.” Power chords or something that isn’t a direct match with the bass would’ve been nice. The bass at this point just felt awkward, like why is it still the most focused on part? The strings also kinda just happened, no reason as to why, they were just there and then they weren’t. And the guitar melody was… it made my ears very very sad. No articulation nor any difference in volume throughout, also didn’t feel like it belonged with the parts it was playing on top of, maybe don’t use a guitar melody at all? I may not have good ears, but it sounded like much of it wasn’t in the right key signature either.
Overall you probably should’ve spent more than a day on it. Take me for example, my part was definitely the weakest contribution to the collab because I have no skills to make an original, but on those less than 30 seconds I contributed, I spent DAYS to make sure that the collab wouldn’t suffer because of me. Never too late to edit! That is of course if MMM hasn’t already started their part. Also everything I say is my opinion, but I feel that I’m not the only one that thinks more time should be spent on this.
Thanks for the review. Like I said before, composing isn’t exactly my thing just yet, but it’ll take practice. Really, I couldn’t think of anything else to add to the part, so I just left it at that.
Looking back, it did seem a bit all over the place, but you have to keep in mind I haven’t really composed an actual song in months, maybe years, so that might have something to do with it. I would’ve added onto Apocoloptogon’s part more if he had continued cartox’s part (since I quite liked the melody that was going on) and left it at that, but then it shifted onto something completely different, and caught me a bit off guard. To me, it felt like the bridge between one section to another, so I tried my best to transition from that, but it felt more like I just rudely interjected in a lovely conversation. The flutes at the end may make up for it (if MMM executes his part well), but while I’m waiting it just feels like dead air.
In retrospect, I could’ve done much better. It sounded a lot better in my head than what I put out, and I feel responsible for that. However, I’m probably not gonna edit it, just in case MMM has started his part. I don’t wanna be the dick that’s already edited his part and be like “Hey, so uh, I remade my part, might wanna fix your part to go along with it lmao,” that’s just not cool. But yeah, if there is another community collab (which I’m certainly hopeful for), then I’ll be sure to learn from my mistakes and put out a better part (depending on the circumstances, of course).
I haven’t started my part yet actually, and I think the 13 days I have left is beyond enough for me. If you want to edit yours, just tell me and go ahead!
