but… i love those songs…
KEEP THEM UP, MODS
and what does it matter if no one gave it a 5/5? few songs are perfect, and i’m pretty sure that everyone on the site will say the same. not all of everyone’s songs are amazing. this is a giant awesome collab song that deserves to be heard by anyone who wants to hear it. it’s not bad in any way, shape or form.
so…yeah, keep it up.
Yeah… that part was me…
I bet you were happy you looked back and saw the hive mind was disliking this song.

The featuredness of this song…
btw, You’re overreacting. This is a good song. I rated 5/5.
no. keep it up. TFB, you’re not helping pointing out every single thing wrong in every single song you listen to. this song is great. is it a 5/5? no. is it extremely close to that? definitely.
Moderators should keep it up! I will cry if its taken down!!
C’mon! Keep it featured. This is one of my personal favorite songs, mostly because of how repetitive it is. I love the ongoing looping melodies. It isn’t too stuffed with instruments. If it were, it would explode/fall apart and the song would self-destruct.
I think it’s brilliant, carrot.
This is good anyway carrot. You remember when Funfield’s Race got featured?
Funfield’s Race has a 2.81/5. Your song has a 4/5
Your song is NOWHERE near the worst feature.
if no one pointed out what was wrong with carrots songs, how can improvement be made with a relation to what people think. You can say that people can just say whether they like the song or not, but how would he learn what they dislike about that song. And its not like everything TFB said was negative, he said that he liked sheet 24 and 25. I find it good that your sticking out for him when he is feeling bad from public criticism but things won’t always be what you expect them to be. And you just got to push through the humiliation and embarrassment to make it to the top. You need to adapt and be willing to change for the sake of improvement. So I encourage to reassure the person and be kind, but just don’t attack the people who are doing, only what is necessary.
@aliensexist: you really shouldn’t review a song based on personal preference. Just because you don’t like the TYPE of song doesn’t mean that you should dis on it. You should instead look for different aspects to rate the song on like technique, dynamics, phrasing, etc.
sorry i said anything
did you read what I said?
It amazes me that this song has 32 comments at the time of this post and I never saw it. I really need to get back into this community like I used to be, hopefully even making music too.
So anyway I just happened by today and saw a new song had been featured and decided to click it, and man what a good decision that was. Right after my first listen I was fully reminded of the old days of this community, and what notessimo is really capable of in terms of production quality. On top of that, the fact that this work was a collaborative effort just multiplies the effect three times on me, I really love that. So first before I get into the review, which may be positive or negative, as I haven’t really taken the time to analyze the song fully, I want to extend a personal thanks to all three of the composers just for making the song and making it good, at least on my first listen. On to the review.
Intro (Sheets 0-1-2): I had the first sheet looping around while I wrote the above paragraph, the point being to make sure the word repetitive doesn’t show up in my review. Luckily the Rhodes is such a beautiful choice in that context that I could probably just loop it forever and be content (Dire, Dire Docks anyone?). However, it struck me as odd that you’d have only 12 measures instead of a more traditional 8 or 16. I do love the simplicity of the melody, especially when you add the higher melody to make it more interesting. The problem is it feels both too fast and too slow at the same time. You could shave off the first sheet by introducing the high melody right away or, if you prefer to start with the lower, less complex melody (as this is a more moody song, a little repetition (DANG IT) can be good when applied correctly), you could repeat a copy of sheet 0 before sheet 1 where the high melody is introduced at the end of the sheet rather than at the start of sheet 1, which is a little sudden. If you have any part of a song that doesn’t really do anything you almost always should either get rid of it or make it work with something else. Overall nothing too bad here, as I said the melody is nice and simple and the lead into the next section is amazing. Rating: 4/5
Verse 1 (Sheets 3-4-5): Alright the first sheet is what really got me into this song I’ll admit, the atmosphere is just amazing in the first sheet. Even more astounding to me is the actual number of instruments that are there at all. The amount of sound you got out of the four or five instruments is a true achievement, good job on that front. Sheet 3 is a great hook for any new listener. However things start to fall apart when the trumpets and fender are introduced. There is one glaring issue here, volume control. You see, the panning effect you have on there is good, but panning of any kind brings a sound to the forefront of your mix, and it’s important to keep things sounding as loud or quiet as they should sound. In this case the trumpet+fender combo is meant to be the main focus so it’s not quite as bad as if a chord instrument or bass was too loud, but it’s still far too loud and needs to be adjusted to fit better into the existing song. This is especially bad on a song that is about mood and atmosphere rather than just being catchy and spontaneous. Also since the fender is louder than the trumpet when played at the same volume percentage, the stereo field is leaning pretty far to the right the whole time. Balance is the key to a great song, and for that section the song lacked it. Rating: 3.5/5
Pre-Chorus 1 (Sheet 6): Despite being the shortest section I think I’ve ever had in a review (and thus being a rather powerful sheet in terms of the overall rating), I think this sheet deserved to be in it’s own section for two reasons. One, it’s two different from the last section. Two, it does it’s job so spectacularly that I wanted to separate it from the previous negativity as to not confuse any readers. This is what every pre-chorus aspires to be, supporting the chorus perfectly. Rating: 4.5/5
Chorus 1 (Sheets 7-7): I do enjoy the simplicity of this chorus a lot, but I have to admit it would have been a lot worse without the pre-chorus to add that contrast that really adds emphasis to a section. The main reason for this is there isn’t a lead melody to focus on during this section, and while I appreciate the fact that the song is supposed to be easy listening, I do think a soft lead would have completed it. Nothing too memorable about chords, a repeating bassline and drumline, and the same melody played during the verse. Not bad, but it feels incomplete. Rating: 4/5
Verse 2 (Sheets 8-3-9-10): Pre-verse bridge was good again, again the drum fill was great (not quite as good as the pre-chorus though). I also felt the trumpet+fender combination worked a lot better alone as it wasn’t really overshadowing anything anymore. It’s still far too prominent, but since it was expected this time I was able to more enjoy the melody rather than ponder the decision-making. Another thing that stood out to me about this section was how even though all the sections were different in their own respect, they all transition into each other seamlessly. What makes this even better is that 3 is a repeated sheet and it still works really well in it’s context. Rating: 4/5
Solo (Sheets 11-12-13-14): It’s so refreshing to be able to talk about a solo after so long. The bridge into it was nice, if a little sudden, and the drumming is superb throughout the solo. However I feel that the bass just isn’t a good soloing instrument, and it shows here. It’s definitely been an aspiration of mine to make a bass solo that actually works, but the bass just isn’t suited to a lead role. I probably would have been better to maintain the atmosphere of the verses with the bass and strat guitar and then solo with the trumpet+fender combo. Overall I felt the solo was lackluster and empty, and also out of place in a song that’s strongest suit so far has been atmosphere, not how catchy it is. Rating: 3.5/5
Bridge (Sheets 15-16-17): This is where emptiness has it’s place in a song, in a section specifically made to either bridge two major sections or build-up into a crescendo section like a main chorus. This one isn’t quite as good as sheet 6 in my opinion, however it does still do what it’s supposed to do effectively. At the forefront again is the drums here, although not just the ending fill this time, the entire section just has great drumming that both emphasizes the emptiness in the beginning and builds up the later parts of the section. Feels like a breath of fresh air after all the other bridge sections having an emphasized drum fill which adds a critical variety to the sections that are allowed to be more various, which is great. Rating: 4/5
Chorus 2 (Sheets 24-25-24-25): Remember the main critique I had about the first chorus? This was the answer I was looking for. While the instrument choice was a little funny this far into the song (the trumpet and fender might have been better if they were fixed since they’ve been used in the song already), that is just a small issue in an otherwise great decision. The melody works, it’s nice and atmospheric and fits well into the established chord progression. There really is nothing more to be said about the chorus that I haven’t already said, so I’ll leave you with that. Rating: 4/5
Bridge 2 (Sheets 18-19): At this point the transitions have really been stealing the show in my review, as they end up being those all-important details that when added properly can just push a song from good to great, however the transitions are not all good and well. This one strikes me as missing that ingenuity of the last few, as the chorus is just repeated without the main melody and a piano is added for no specific purpose. I know sheet 6, which I loved, was just sheet 0 with a fill at the end, but what really made that one special was how effectively the energy was lowered from the verse, and then built-up into the following chorus. Here the energy level has stayed the same for the first sheet, and remember my critique in the first section, anything in your song that doesn’t do anything needs to be changed so that it does something of real value. The fact that 25 into 19 directly isn’t a bad transition itself makes my point for me. And while 19 does lower the energy well, it does it in the most boring way possible with just a sustained note until the next section comes. The slide wasn’t that interesting and neither was the drumming, and there was nothing else there. This section was lacking the magic of the former sections. Rating: 3/5
Chorus 3 (Sheets 20-26-20-26): It pains me to say this, but the fact that this is another chorus right after a previous chorus is rather…repetitive. The same structure is even abused for time, meaning you made the two sheets the just copied them. On top of this, this chorus takes all the goodness of the 2nd chorus and just throws it out with the fender guitar. Again, one of the most major flaws in this song strikes again, bad volume control. And since the fender has the same rhythm as the chords it was already playing earlier it’s not even adding anything meaningful to the chorus. It just wasn’t a good idea. It would have been one thing if it had been like all the previous volume control issues where at least the thing was supposed to be focused on and was playing an interesting melody, but it’s just playing bland chords in time with the chord progression. Wouldn’t it have been cool if you had a second solo here instead? Then this whole section would have been positive as it wouldn’t even have been repetitve. All this section seems to be is just lost potential. Rating: 3/5
Bridge 3 (Sheets 21-22-23): Alright at this point I am starting to lose hope in the song. In many ways the first sheet is like sheet 6, except in the crucial area of effectiveness. I know I’ve been referring back to myself a lot in this review so I’ll keep it brief here, the gap in energy is far too great to be effectively bridged by just sheet 0 and the high fender. And again we see the bass being used outside of it’s home as a support to the rhode’s high melody, again a poor choice. It may have been better if the bass was an octave lower and only played single notes, but to be honest I feel that part didn’t need bass, so another instrument (one that can sustain indefinitely like the rhodes) would have sufficed. And although I personally still liked the drum fill, even I will admit at this point it’s just become overused, granted at least you didn’t just copy it from somewhere else in the song. Rating: 3.5/5
Chorus 2 (24-25-24-25): The reuse of the “good” chorus is a little annoying, it just seems to be there for extra time. Taking a half a point off it’s original score this time around since nothing changed. Rating: 3.5/5
Outro/Ending (Sheet 27-28): Another big sheet here in 27, as I found it to be such a beautiful combination. Here the energy is released perfectly into a nice summary of the two most memorable parts of the song. And my do they work together. I know it’s just the same chord progression as the rest of the song but I still love it. Sheet 28 I found a little lack-luster, especially since you have a perfect looping point in sheet 27, or even could have just had 27 be the ending, which would have resonated much better overall. Again, a useless sheet that needs work or to be removed. Rating: 4/5
Overall thoughts/Feelings:,I feel like the song has captured that level of quality that everyone who ever uses this program strives to achieve, as sheet 3 is my witness. However, it has just enough flaws when scrutinized closely that it just doesn’t stack up when compared to songs that have better atmosphere and songs that have better melodic content.
Overall Rating: 3.7/5
Dang this song has got tons of comments views and votes… and a review by starwars XD O_0. My songs have been up 2wice as long, and?.. almost nothing. cry
Thanks Starwars! ![]()
Sorry George as I said in my review I don’t really view the forums as often as I should. Link me to the song and I’ll give it a listen, can’t guarantee a review as those are somewhat time-consuming but I will at the very least give it a comment with some basic critiques I have with it and such. And who knows, maybe I will review it. It felt good to be back.
Oh and you’re welcome carrot.
100/5 stars for you ![]()
