So I actually āfinishedā this a while ago, then sat around because I also wanted to do the weird intro bit with lots of Grindings, but couldnāt be bothered. Then I finally started trying today, but decided after an hour or two that my idea wasnāt going to sound good enough to satisfy me without putting in days and days worth of effort, and also that Iāve just had enough of working on this and want to move on.
In other words, I consider it finished. I hope itās enjoyable.
Thereās plenty thatās not perfect, so feel free to nitpick however you please, but do bear in mind that I probably wonāt fix anything unless it seems really obvious (and easy to fix) after being mentioned. And if some superhero wants to actually try the intro, feel free.
Also fabricating an ending is beyond my abilities, sorry! So it just loops twice.
I only can say two things:
A)WHO THE HELL RATED 4? (What did he think it was on a scale of .5ā¦)
B)0o we have another clonefan
I almost wanted to fuck the sonic waves emanating from my headphones. It was that good.
If I really wanted to get critical about the little things in your work, I would point out the tambourine that comes in on the fourth measure of sheet 3. It needs to be louder and panned a bit to the left stereo. Also, that strat/fender melody on sheet 5 needs a little flanger (kidding). Uhh, on sheet 6 measure, that ascending strat/fender melody needs to stick out moreā¦
Yāknow what? Iām just going to stop here. I donāt think I have the endurance to point out every single micron of detail in your cover. What I can say, though, is that your work is definitely one of the best Iāve seen here in the two years Iāve stuck around on these Forums. Great job.

I will nitpick the extreme. There was this one noteā¦wellā¦in measure 121 there wasā¦wellā¦screw it. Itās too good. Definitely couldnāt have done better.

Thanks man. Yeah I do take pride in that because that was the first song I did on here where I used every feature notessimo had. I did minimal volume changes and no panning on the ducktales moon theme, but on OBM I did everything. It was my first experiment with measure copying, my first attempt at panning, and the first time I melded sheets together with different tempos. It was done 100% by ear and has become one of the benchmark songs that Iāve done. But enough about meā¦
Judging by how well you did with the Extreme Iād say you wonāt have to worry about being held to high standards, because youāre music should turn out just fine. Looks like you put a lot of effort into your songs just like I do.
To the rest of the communityā¦yeah thatās right, I havenāt forgotten about this place. Iāve just been so incredibly busy lately that I just havenāt had the time to do anything with this. From school to work, and now with the two football games that came out in the summer, oh man those games have really gotten me hooked when I actually have some free time. But Iāve still been pitching at a few songs here or there. My problem is I keep working on one song, then jumping to another, than another, and just havenāt finished everything. Two songs Iāve got a good beat on is Crazy Motorcycle chase from FFVII, and also the boss fight from FFVIII (I think itās called Force your Way?) Both are turning out really well, but I just havenāt gotten the time to finish them up yet. Donāt worry though, Iāll get back in the saddle eventuallyā¦

Though it has only been around last week since I started, I put a lot of time and effort into it everyday (I feel like abandoning things left for too long)

Not bad, but I canāt commend your song choice. Honestly one of the more random FF songs Iāve heard. Unfortunately I donāt think it tops The Extreme or One Winged Angel.
However, as a cover, I think you definitely did the song justice. Seems FF covers have a lease on our best talent.
I chose this over final boss fights probably because of the order I first listened to them. Iāve listened to them before Iāve played the game, then I play the game and find
that I like the ones that lead up to the final boss like Jenova -FF7, Legendary Beast + Maybe Iām a lion etc and forget how good I thought the final boss fight music were.
I found this one quite catchy and just had the urge to do something.
Bah, I fully support covering more than just the obvious FF songs! Premonitionās a fine composition in my opinion.
I think the strings in sheet 3 (and the rest where that part is used) sound a bit bare, it sounds like thereās an oboe in the original, having one doing the same melody an octave lower would probably work really well. The French Horns you used in sheet 7 would work too.
I also really wish you hadnāt used the horribly out-of-tune Trombones.
Other than that I love it though. I like your subtle use of the low Percussive Organ at the beginning.
Again, as a COVER, the song is great. I just personally donāt like the song itself. There shouldnāt be a reason not to cover ANY good song, whether I like it or not.
Yeah I suppose if I would nitpick I would say the trombones are an awful sound for any song unless they are used low, that being said not because they are āout-of-tune,ā but rather after a short while they lose their pitch almost completely to an odd noise that is present to a lesser degree in other brass and wind instruments like the clarinet and french horn. Still, the Trombone is a good instrument when used correctly and has great potential.
When i compare it to One Winged Angel and The Extreme I actually wasnāt talking about the songs themselves (as stated above, I donāt like the song and that would mess up the result with bias), but rather as a cover. Remember that when you are critiquing a cover you canāt really critique the song because itās not original and that would create false ownership for the transposer (is that a word?), instead you look at the quality of the original and compare it to how well it transferred, along with accuracy and attention to detail, attributes that are nowhere near as important in an original song. So what i am really saying when I say āit doesnāt top One Winged Angel or The Extremeā I mean Clonefan and JollaBollathan definitely seem to have spent more time on everything and while that doesnāt mean the song is bad, it definitely shouldnāt surpass songs like those.
That being said, this song is a great cover. I donāt normally do covers as all my attempts leave me bored after about 3 days or so, so I wonāt really go into detail about what couldāve been better, but on the whole I think you did a solid job and anyone couldāve finished in a week if you have the proper devotion.
Premonition was awesome. Great Job syl! It was cool that you were able to complete a song that was in 3/4 time.
