BUMP! I took a while because I was fighting a computer virus. It was Personal Antivirus. I was going to hit cancel or whatever, but I accidentally hit Run. I couldn’t delete the program because it was always running. So I tricked it into letting me write it to a CD, then I deleted the file off of the computer while the CD was still in the drive. Afterwards, I broke the disc, and threw it away. I would have used some sort of virus removal tool, but there were 2 problems…
- PAV redirects me to the same page over and over, so I couldn’t download a virus removal tool or look for a guide to manually remove it.
- Even if I did find one, I would’ve had to pay to get rid of it.
After getting rid of the main virus, I had to get rid of the trojan associated with it. I downloaded Prevx 3.0 to find the files that were harmful. I would have used that to delete them, but it costs money, so I had to do it the old-fashioned way. winexplorer.dll was the trojan. I cut-and-pasted it to the desktop. Then I put a CD into the disc-drive, I copy-pasted the file into the CD, and immediately sent the file on my desktop to the recycling bin. I then wrote that file to a CD, and again broke the disc.
After all of that confusion, there was one more thing to get rid of. It was yontooieclient.dll. It was easy to get because I just looked in the program files, where Prevx told me it was, and simply deleted the file, and emptied the Recycling Bin. Now all of the virus materials were gone, and are never to be seen again on this computer.
