Forum Cleaning

I’ve closed the poll because Starburst already has ideas for everything about the forum (and the website).

Oh yay, another one of these… but I’m ok with it, no point in keeping those old threads if they won’t be used, right?

Yes, and also as CF stated (yes, I have now made him CF), it would “reorganize this forum to make it more accesible, especially for newer members that will start out having a hard time finding things as it is”.

Also, if there is anyone who can give a viable reason for keeping a certain thread, please tell us and we might keep it.

NEW idea!

Starburst has given the idea to archive all of those unused forums into a single “dump” location just in case someone searches something discussed in one of those threads.

That’s a great idea! I noticed he also got rid of the empty middle section too

I was thinking what Starburst was thinking about the Graveyard. It’s an idea commonly used on other forums. However, i think we should let the mods that have been here since almost the beginning handle the cleaning if anyone.

I think this is all a good idea, but are you talking about putting all old threads in the graveyard? or just the posts alone?

It would be cool if it was set so if nobody posted in a thread for x amount of days, it wouuld automatically go into the graveyard. and if someone posts in a thread in a graveyard, it would come out of that section…

I had a similar idea in the Sandy Witches thread. A Legendary Forum for all the threads that changed lives, such as the Sandy Witch thread. Just a thought…

The “spring cleaning” idea is a good one. Those old threads that had little to no replies that served no purpose should be deleted, or placed in the Graveyard.

A poll? Really?

My thoughts exactly Hypo. I’m not sure what a poll accomplishes, but I guess for curiosity’s sake…

Anyway, so since my idea got publicized way more and way faster than I had anticipated, I’ll make some suggestions on this thread I guess. The graveyard idea, not a terrible one, but my point is I’ve seen threads at the back of certain categories that have been dead since last July and some have posts by users I don’t even see anymore. I would think deleting them would be more effective than adding yet another section to an already cluttering forum. I’m not saying we have to change categories. We can still have songs, and general, and categories of the like, I’m referring to cleaning up what’s inside those. I do very much like the composer thread idea, because that might make us as mods have much more control over the songs…hey, just got an idea. What if we make the new “composer thread”. From there composers can make their own threads, do what they want, let them pretty much have no boundaries as far as talent and number of songs. Then we make it so th song thread has it’s genres (classical, jazz, video games, rock, etc…) but no one can add any more than what we have in songs without mod approval (examples: acceptible-in the random threads say a rush of sonic the hedgehog songs comes in and someone wants to make a thread with sonic the hedgehog songs, then when one of us sees that it’s getting popular, we put that sub-category in and move the sonic songs from random songs to the sonic thread. Unacceptable-Someone wants to add a thread of their own songs (that’s what the “composer thread” would be for) or wants to add a category that is asking for help or something about notessimo, whatever.) So basically I’m saying we put the categories in the songs and those categories cannot be changed without mod approval. If you want your own thread just put it in the composer thread. I dunno, maybe that’s what you’re thinking already, but I just think something needs to be different to make it less confusing for some people. Well, I was thinking the front page of Notessimo could change a little too. Currently Theres the Notessimo section and the Off-Topic section, with 4 categories in each section. I’m thinking instead of having an off-topic section, just get rid of that and put an off-topic categorie under the now one and only Notessimo section…which I guess makes it unnecessary, but the blue border makes it hard for some of the slower folk out there to figure out that bottom part is off topic so we just make it a category in the notessimo section where it’s more visible. Then we add a composer category and from there we make it so the songs thread has nothing but genre threads in there and any other important threads that aren’t a genre can be moved to general. Wow, I just realized I almost wrote a book so I’ll leave it there before it gets any more confusing, just writing out thoughts I guess…

Yes Hypo, a poll. I believe this one actually has some relevance, though, because it allows more than just mods to help decide the fate of the forums.

Anyway, Starburst has been pming the mods about what his plans are and there are so many that it would take up about the space cf just used. So, you all can find out what’s going on when it happens (this weekend).

If it’s this weekend, then you guys will have to do it without me… I’m leaving for Nashville friday morning and won’t be back until monday around… 10 at night.

Here are Starburst’s ideas:

[Spoken by Starburst]
I was thinking to do was that each member will have its own mini-forum created automatically, where every song they made will have its own topic created inside automatically each time they share a song, so that people will be able to comment on their songs and a special sticky topic which could be edited by the user and where everyone could comment on the composer (similar to the user thread). This way people could look for songs by a specific author, comments on that author and his songs. This will create a mini-forum for each member, and will not be “visible”, what I mean is that the only way to reach this mini-forum is by clicking on the user’s profile or when you browse songs and click on a song, this will gets you to the song’s thread where the song will be embedded and the first post will be automatically generated (with ratings, views, etc.) and not editable. The topics will be sorts by creation date so this way you can easily see new songs from a specific author and even subscribe to his forum so that you get alerted when a new masterpiece is created !

And for the alphabetical order all you need to do is click on the “Members” links (there is also a “find member”). This would greatly clean the forum I think and make things easier to search (with everything integrated in the phpBB system it will be easier also to filters spam)

And maybe inside that mini-forum there could be a category where anyone can create new topics about the author or the author himself like a mini blog. The author could be a moderator for his own forum also (but restricted so there is no abuse).

This weekend, I will launch the new design and I hope to also add this mini-forum to each member (I also plan on adding the mario paint instruments which are long overdue ).

Eventually, I will make it so that you can access this mini-forum simply by typing “hypo.notessimo.net” for example.

why doesn’'t starburst post? I wouldn’t like being the ‘middleman’…

but ya this all is good ideas…
…but what if someone shares another persons song?
or if someone share a song that they dont want to be posted?
I think there should be a “Post My Song” button…

PS what is the point of a global announcement?
this whole site is worldwide…LOL

I think he might make it so that when you share a song when you’re logged in, it’ll go onto your profile… so… yeah.
And if you don’t want it posted… don’t log in

PS… I don’t get it…

Geez, almost forgot! Starburst, will you be able to add a text box instead of (or in addition to) the volume/panning sliders? It’s a bitch making crescendos and echos.

EVERYBODY REMEMBER TO SHARE ANY SONGS YOU’RE WORKING ON; THEY MAY BE DELETED DURING THE UPDATE THIS COMING WEEKEND.

Now, let’s see who reads the announcements shall we?

Prepare for an onslaught of ‘MY SONGS WERE DELETED!!’ threads…

Global announcements show up at the top section of each category in the threads. Announcements show up at the top of one section.

I know that…I meant what was the point of calling it a global announcement…

I dunno… means everyone here can see it? What would you rather call it?
