Marching Band

Hey, how many of you guys (and girls) are in a marching band? I play trumpet in mine. I just found out today that we will be competing at The Ohio State University, the MSBA finals*, the OMEA finals* at the University of Dayton, and the Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana.
(a * means we have to qualify, but I have no doubt we will)

I’m in my schools band… but we aren’t a marching band… just a ‘sit on your ass and play’ band
I play bass in it. Used to play drums.

I play mallets in my marching band. I am also in winter percussion and that starts competition on Feb 28

I play trumpet in the KSU marching band. Of course it’s off-season right now, but I have a ton of fun with it during the actual marching (football) season. College marching band is so much better than high school’s that it’s not even funny. Instead of playing one show for the entire season, we had to learn a new one every other week (4 shows total).

That sounds fun. I would like to play in the Ohio State University marching band.
Also, I can wait for this season to start. We are supposed to get a record number of freshmen. Last season, we had 11 trumpets; next season we are expecting 20-25. The most we have had previously has been 16.

Remember that one time at band camp…?

Heh, next season 09-10 (wtf 10) I’m going to try-out to be a section leader for the alto saxes.

Then for my senior year, Ima try out for DRUM MAJOR!!!

I really have no competition up against me, so it’s all good. I hope…

Anyone planning to be a drum major for their high school marching band? I just love the strict movements and commands; it makes you look all tip-top in form.

I don’t want to be a drum major. Next season, (my junior year) I am going to be the co vice section leader. In 2 years, though, I will try for section leader. I may not get to be one, though, if I decide to try out for a Drum Corps.

I will be section leader by default my senior year XD It will also be almost empty

There is a band from a school in my area that is going to march in a parade in London.

first winter percussion show today though it is the first time we are actually performing, no scores because it is at our school’s guard’s homeshow

I used to be in concert band… almost joined marching band, but I have a lot of problems with my legs, so I couldn’t stand up long enough. That, and everyone thought I sucked.

We have people who have similar conditions as you.

Our previous director just assigned them to the pits, lol. Though, there is one other person who is boat-legged who marches on the field with us. I really wish he quit marching band for his own good and our own. I was surprised we got top ranks at the assessment with him.

I see marching band for people who are fit and firm and are also musically capable.

Im in the Pit, we stand the whole time just don’t usually march around and last year, we were in the middle of the field

sorry for double post other ppl, but I just wanted to say that today is the NY Winter percussion championships and i will be updating with the place we get later
