Alright time for some critique. Rubs palms
I thought the song was okay. It’s techno, so obviously the drums are terrible. In fact I hated the drums. Bass #4 is without a doubt the worst bass for this genre. And snare #5? Why not 3 or 2? And the high-hat was just an annoyance. You can tell that this song wasn’t set up very well to be a techno song.
Sure the bass riff was good. Probably the best or second-best part of the song. But it was heavily over-shadowed by the fact that almost every synth riff is based directly over it. I loved the sheet 7-8-9 combo because not only was it a great, and I mean great, transition into the speed-up, it let us hear the riff without any synths over it.
Speaking of which, the speed-up was nice. Kept things fresh and unpredictable, so that you didn’t really notice that the next few sheets were just a copy-pasta of the bass riff with yet more synths. And yet, as if it was there to save the song, synth #3 was placed, and what a god-send it was. It trully is the most dynamic of all the synths, I never expected such a rock-and-rollish solo in sheet 18 to sound so good with a synthesizer. And then there’s sheet 17. Like most songs, such as circus express and DC’s newest song (sorry for not remembering the name), there is always that silver lining sheet that somehow uses crazy techniques and out-of-the box thinking to create a great sheet, and this was sheet 17 for me. Or rather, until the terrible ending of it. But that aside, it was truly a nice listen.
Yeah and the rest of the song is pretty self-same. The transition from solo to regular song felt like it came in a little too early, and really felt like you were trying too hard. Sure, it sounded decent enough, but it felt like it belonged in a rock and roll piece instead of techno.
As Fish said, the transition into it being a loop is good. It works out if you decide to start like half-way in or something. Because this song begs for an intro like Saga of the Dragon did. It sounds nice and gives the song a great amount of re-play value because somehow the beginning somehow sounds better the second time around.
Overall, I give this song a 4.3. It’s not a bad song, far from it, but it lacks that quality that makes songs like Fields of Theory and Rise of Credence stand out, and that is that they sound and feel like a whole TON of effort was put into them. In songs like those, it seems like no matter how small an aspect was, it was dealt with with the same amount of attention that a more major part had, even if it didn’t.
