Sandalman's Hall of Songs: Achieving Mirth 6/12/12

I loved sheets 8 and 9. I didn’t like the second measure of sheet 5 though. A great song though!

New Song and updated poll as well as reset the votes.

Hope you guys didn’t mind the long time since my last song.

Catchy and upbeat!

I loved the organs, the drums were nice!

Oh no guys, I feel a full review coming on…Curse you Sandalman for forever being amazing at producing simple yet extremely catchy riffs.

Alright so the intro. I actually did not like the intro, I felt some of the chords used for the acoustic guitar didn’t work too well and when the Strat kicked in, I was fearing that you were trying to go a different direction than what I have come to know you by, the above description. Luckily Sheet 3 came and was such an instant hook that it almost made the song for me. Only other thing is I felt the intro didn’t really transition well into the catchy riff of sheet 3.

The next eight sheets (3/3/4/5/6/3/3), those were a really good way too hook a listener in. As always, I love your simplistic styling and how each part builds on each other. The only real critique I have with these sheets is there’s a lack of bass, because the bass is played an octave too high in my opinion. Overall, has my stamp of approval, especially sheet 6. Love how you worked that in as a way to repeat sheet 3 again as an ending to that section.

I felt sheet 7 was more of a build-up to the solo, thus not directly attached to what I assume was the chorus, more of a post-chorus. While I really liked all the individual parts of this sheet, I felt the drumming was what really tied it together. It really made the sheet stand out, gave it a heavier feel that didn’t fit the song, but worked well in the context.

Man I’m a sucker for an organ solo. If anything, I was sad it couldn’t have lasted longer. It wasn’t Kaveman-level soloing, but it still had your charm on it, and it reminded me of our collab (which I still love, no matter how it went over with everyone else).

Sheet 11 was essentially sheet 6 with the extra male vox on the top, right? Either way, I still love this sheet, it worked really well as a transition sheet. After a slight cringe seeing sheets 3/3/4 just repeated (and 12 being a small variation of sheet 5), I was extremely satisfied just having another solo to listen to. The guitar solo was unexpected, and so on my first listen I loved it. Re-listening, I do consider the Organ solo better. But that might just be my bias speaking.

Then Sheet 15 came. I’m sorry to say, I really didn’t like this sheet. It starts out decently, repeating the transition with the extra guitars to help get out of the solo, but the whole section after measure 8 was just, bad, to be blunt. The problem was the strat was just so loud and piercing, it just overshadowed everything else.

So, in summary, I felt the general song really emphasized what you are good at, that is, using rugged simplicity to tie parts together in a way that they support each other well, without ending up with a bland feel to it. The intro and outro stood in contrast to the rest of the song to me, and a few transitions were a little iffy, but I think it’s deserving of a rating of 4.2/5

On a side note, I liked sheet 9 :stuck_out_tongue:
