The Critisism Thread

Thanks Nuse! Trust me, the song is far from perfect, or even being finished. But I don’t think I’ll ever go back over it. I’ll just leave this here as a reminder to myself to never blow up over a song again. It’s never helpful in any way really.

Oh, and I know I didn’t critique anything before posting the song here, but hopefully it’s not too insulting to say that I shouldn’t have to, considering all the critique I give on a normal basis. I will go over the last three songs, but I’ll try and keep it short.

So first, Crimson Ion. Personally what I love best about GS’s songs is the main melodies, they’re usually quite catchy and inventive. Though the song was short, it made great use of the green synth, which is a generally over-used instrument. But I think, in GS’s hands, that synth really comes out as a great instrument to use for single notes rather than long held-out chords. (3.6/5, mostly because the song is far too short).

Westward Exploration’s best quality is the sound, all the instruments blend well together and really sell the orchestral nature of the song, as in, I could see a real orchestra playing the song. The only real problem I see are the huge gaps in which nothing really plays, and the percussion is a bit over-riding in places. Overall though, it shows all the creativity and freedom that comes with writing an orchestral piece, it really was fun to listen to. (3.9/5)

The Storm is a song I don’t think I’ve heard before. The other two are old, but after a few measures I recognized the songs. This song has the same problem as WE, it has huge gaps in power that really drag on. However though, this song had a much more interesting choice of instruments, and it seemed that every time it came back to the starting section, it had something new to keep me interested. But by the time the super fast part of the song came in, I was already bored and had nearly finished this review. I don’t think the transition was done correctly, and I can’t stand the string arpeggios. But what really makes me frown is the heavy drumming, it may have fit but I didn’t like it. The part ended, and I felt it didn’t really fit. (3.8/5)

My humble opinion on the songs:

T.W.D

sorry I don’t like “rock”, pretty repetitive and metal guitar over used i think, and to loud 2.5/5 (I don’t like rock sorry)

The Storm

that first chord lasted awhile took a long time to get “on with it” I liked the chord progression though (once you got to it :P )
3/5 (really slow, made the song go on forever)

Westward Exploration

EPIC START, EPIC MELODY
did not like the cango on measure 86 (really abrupt and short)
Love when the snare came in on sheet 8 (awesome)
Ouch the change from 6 to 4… (rock) (rock)
end chord to long and then just Stopped (very abrupt)

I LOVED IT 4.5/5

now my song

Just tell me straight out what you think of it (dont try to be nice :D )

THEFinalBoss: The Storm:
The intro was weak. It was just a C Major chord with some runs thrown in until sheet 2, and it was just boring, really. I almost didn’t make it to sheet 9. The “Calm” before the “Storm” was too long and not very interesting. The “storm” itself didn’t last very long, and sounded like a Slayer song if it was made with violins. I hate Slayer. The percussion wasn’t very interesting, but it got the job done. The ending was pretty weak, as well. It wasn’t terrible, but it seemed like a chore to listen all the way through. Overall, it was meh. I’d give it a 2.5/5.

Starwars/Itsetf/Ashleybas10: TGCTNW:
That was good, but there were some funky bits. The bassline was a bit simple, though I don’t know what else you could have done with it. Like Nuse said, the chords were simple, but effective. The 6/8 part was so awesome until sheet 81 with the weird strats. Sheets 81-84 were a bit overdone with the strats. I do like how you managed to use the electric techno bass thing without making it sound terrible. The ending was weak, though. I would give it a 3.8/5, almost a four.

George: Threatening Voyage:
That was really good, I want to start by saying that the melody itself kicked many an ass. I did notice that the violin runs before the chords in sheet 23 weren’t audible, and I think they would have made that sheet just a little better. Your use of percussion was nice, you didn’t overdo it. The ending was the worst part, it was really weak. I’d give this a 4.75/5.

I don’t remember submitting a cover being against the rules, so here’s mine:
