Thanks Nuse! Trust me, the song is far from perfect, or even being finished. But I don’t think I’ll ever go back over it. I’ll just leave this here as a reminder to myself to never blow up over a song again. It’s never helpful in any way really.
Oh, and I know I didn’t critique anything before posting the song here, but hopefully it’s not too insulting to say that I shouldn’t have to, considering all the critique I give on a normal basis. I will go over the last three songs, but I’ll try and keep it short.
So first, Crimson Ion. Personally what I love best about GS’s songs is the main melodies, they’re usually quite catchy and inventive. Though the song was short, it made great use of the green synth, which is a generally over-used instrument. But I think, in GS’s hands, that synth really comes out as a great instrument to use for single notes rather than long held-out chords. (3.6/5, mostly because the song is far too short).
Westward Exploration’s best quality is the sound, all the instruments blend well together and really sell the orchestral nature of the song, as in, I could see a real orchestra playing the song. The only real problem I see are the huge gaps in which nothing really plays, and the percussion is a bit over-riding in places. Overall though, it shows all the creativity and freedom that comes with writing an orchestral piece, it really was fun to listen to. (3.9/5)
The Storm is a song I don’t think I’ve heard before. The other two are old, but after a few measures I recognized the songs. This song has the same problem as WE, it has huge gaps in power that really drag on. However though, this song had a much more interesting choice of instruments, and it seemed that every time it came back to the starting section, it had something new to keep me interested. But by the time the super fast part of the song came in, I was already bored and had nearly finished this review. I don’t think the transition was done correctly, and I can’t stand the string arpeggios. But what really makes me frown is the heavy drumming, it may have fit but I didn’t like it. The part ended, and I felt it didn’t really fit. (3.8/5)
