I loved your song, DD. I also thought the ending was very good, at least it was better than my endings.

Hum duh dee, good intro, nice strings…wait, wait, WAIT
OH NO! WHY IN THE WORLD IS IT A ROCK SONG? WHY?!?!?!?
^^^ These were my thoughts as the song unfolded. I really liked the intro because I thought it set up a nice ambient or orchestral piece really well but NO. Now I just think the intro is out of place. I expected a really insane amount of panning and neat techniques considering that I’ve heard both your collab with me and the one with Slip, and what do I get? Generic Rock. It wasn’t even an overly fun piece or epic, because it had too many elements of both.
On a side note, the intro screams: “USE THE RAIN EFFECT IT FITS SO PERFECTLY!!!” Or maybe I do. Meh. Moving on:
As the song progressed, I felt rage over both the drums and the bass. The bass to me felt like it was just tacked on, not a whole lot of ingenuity went into it. That includes the really low and un-audible vox. Now there were some sheets where it was commendable. My personal favorite sheet was 8, because there the vox and bass are working together in harmony and not against each other. The drums were great, but the whole beat of the drums was thrown off by that terrible sounding cymbal #1. The whole time I was trying to listen to the good aspects of the drumming, and it just was too over-shadowed to be good. If it weren’t for that, I probably would have enjoyed the song that much more. That being said, this song had some of the best drum fills I’ve ever heard.
After a while, I got bored with the endless arpeggio of the Xylophone. You get props just for using it, why push it? It just made the song repetitive. Even in sheets like 8 and 9 where there were none, you still had this feeling that they were there. Probably because they always came back later on.
Now, the song was not without merit. I really LOVED the 6-14-15-16 sequence. They didn’t save the song, but I thought that that part of the song was the greatest. There was strings like I wanted throughout the song, and the metal guitar was a nice touch without being any bit over-powering. And the pause between 14 and 15 was FTW. No, that’s an understatement. Without using a bunch of memes, that single measure was my highlight of the song, and I think a whole rating point should go for it.
Now the ending was commendable. Using a previous sheet is always a plus, because usually they are hard to use again as anything other than a repeat. Another reason I like it is because it reminds me of my own ending to A Soft Interlude. IMO it’s my best ending ever, and this one is on par.
Alright, thank you for the amazing criticizm, all of the faults you adressed were things I worried about, and should have polished up on, but as I (vaguely) said, I havent been doing Originals as much as I should be, and I loved the way 14 went into 15 also, that was my strong point. This really helped me a lot, and you can expect my next original coming next year!! to be better.
