Music Theory

But can’t you put any of the many sevenths in a minor scale?

I was thinking the minor or major 7th chord I wasn’t thinking of the (minor-major) and this chord is not playable in the natural minor scale, if it is please give me an example.

D F A C#

Major-Minor chord follows the formula from the root as follows:

m3 M3 M3

(minor third, Major third, Major third)

And D F A C# fits the scale of D natural minor

D natural minor does not contain C# D harmonic minor contains C#

C# in D natural minor is called an “accidental”. It’s not part of the key signature, but at certain times it can be part of the key without being called a subdominant.

i try to avoid accidentals and I personally don’t think it fits in the key signature if it has to use them, but I guess music theorists disagree with me on that, so I will accept your reply as correct.

Are you kidding? Did you see the example I gave to museline? That accidental couldn’t have been a better thing for making the saddened except flow so well.

I like accidentals, they create jazzy effects and also emotional ones too as xenon said. Also the raised seventh in harmonic minors are way cooler than the normal sevenths.

And natural minor

that accidental can be thought of as a switch to the harmonic minor, which I often use instead of an accidental, although for the sake of simplicity I would write it on the sheet music as an acidental

Natural minor sounds wonky though.

Maybe to people who are…less experienced at music theory

Ok show me one good minor song that has a natural seventh in it.

song-50803

Part 9

It’s the B which is half a step away from C, and the song is in C natural minor

No wait B is a raised seventh to C minor, so wouldn’t the natural seventh be Bb?

Nice song also!

Exactly, B is the 7th and it’s an accidental that’s also a natural note, which is what you wanted.

B isn’t a natural seventh, because you have to raise it from Bb.

C D Eb F G Ab Bb C →
C D Eb F G Ab B C

oh I thought you wanted it to me natural as in Bb B# B Natural.

Oops sorry should have thought that too

So, how about those locrian modes. Pretty snazzy right?
