NOTE: Collapse takes a while to get into it…
So Cursed: You seem to hold this one in higher esteem than Collapse, so I’ll critique it first, before I even listen to Collapse. I thought it was quite weird, I’m sure the theory behind the song is over my head. It had two particular things I liked, the drumming, which is obvious, and it’s in 3/4 time, which I’m always a sucker for. On the downside though, the song has the worst quality I believe a song can have, it’s random and repetitive at the same time somehow. On top of that, it’s short. Generally with a short song it’s okay to be a bit more repetitive because then you aren’t doing it just to extend the song’s length, and this works well. But it also seems random, and what happens is what the metal guitar is playing becomes void because it’s switching too fast to follow properly, especially past the strings that were constantly fighting to be heard and the electric piano which didn’t really help. However, where the metal guitar lays off a bit, the song is quite enjoyable, but quickly becomes repetitve. Now I’ve gone full circle, which really defines this song. I just wish there was a solo or something to break the repetition.
Not what I’d consider one of your best, except the drumming, that was excellent (there really isn’t too much more I can add to that about the drumming, it really is your niche. Be proud, you’re the Neil Peart of Notessimo). What it really needs is more bass and one instrument that is dedicated to playing long held-out notes to add structure to the faster parts. 3.7/5
Collapsed: After listening I can definitely say Cursed is better, I mean this doesn’t even look like you tried. That open-hat is so obnoxious that when the sheet 30s came along I was just happy the drumming improved. So yeah there’s not too much to say other then it’s incredibly repetitive, and doesn’t have any outstanding qualities to it. Not going to bother rating, as I consider it unfinished.
Thank-you for the review, but i honestly didn’t see cursed being that flawed…except for the fact that it is short…and it sounds random because i started with the intro and basically made it so that it had no verses due to lack of inspiration…i then couldn’t think of anyway to add the verses in…and it ended up sounding random…and to me…kinda unfinished…but i couldn’t help it…i tried for ages to think of something to add into it as a verse…but i couldn’t think of anything (come to think of it…it is quite flawed as that is a somewhat major problem)
Unfortunately…that has also happened with my unfinished song: Ascension…unfortunately, it will either suffer the same fate as cursed, or just be abandoned…
=(
On another note…i have recently been considering a cover…it seems like the song i’m thinking of doing wouldn’t be too hard to do by ear…
I have also started a remix as of now…i just have to make sure its good enough considering who the original is by…
Ok, before you listen, take note that the riff was taken out of a Deus Ex game trailer and slightly edited (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEJvCmB4CWY) and i basically just experimented with the riff’s potential and added to it.
That was good, but I’d only call it a verse in a song (although an really good verse). Try and make proper songs that are long enough! But still I really liked it, and the drumming was great.
