Rock Thread (Original)

I can’t criticize if I don’t know what’s wrong…

So nothing’s wrong or it just doesn’t sound right to you?

Yes, it doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know how to figure out what’s wrong.

Things I found to be wrong with the song:

1, Intro was set to a slow tempo, this causes a “hiccup” sound when the string notes end. Could’ve been fixed by either increasing the tempo (100 is usually the lowest I would recommend), or by overlapping the notes slightly (I.E. instead of 32 for a half-note, 33 or 34).

  1. The established riff was too bland, made worse by the fact that the bass played the exact same thing. Sounded best when the strat started playing chords.

  2. Hardly anything connects the measures to each other, other than the Male vox. This gives off a static feel that is only good in more industrial songs.

  3. Drums were repetitive.

  4. No chorus was made apparent.

  5. I loved the slowed-down parts of the song, I really do. The parts where they speed up are a real treat. These were let down by two things. First, and this is the smaller one, but I really didn’t like the sheets where there was no background for the vox except the drums. I can see what you may or may not have been trying to do, but the loss of speed is a big enough loss in power to make the sudden gain great, no extra help needed. The bigger issue I had is that the sped-up part was great, but turned sour on the last note. In my honest opinion, you should have just placed the same notes.

  6. Alright, the big one. The solo. No other way to say this, but sheets 25 and 26 were an absolute joke. Except the drumming, that was great. As for the rest of the solo, it was fine, but all the parts with the fender playing 16th notes made it feel like there was little actual know-how being used. By comparison, the strat was great when it played 16th notes. But sheets 25 and 26 just ruined it for me.

Hmm?

It seemed like there was little effort put into them.

Oh shit, I think the spam bot’s are loose! NOOOO! I’ve found 4 diffrent threads that state the SAME thing. D: (Cool song, The.)

High time somebody other than a bot posted in this thread so…

By popular demand (Nuselline) I present to you the finished version of the song formerly known as “The Cannon Recoil Project”:

You are now in my OMGHOWCANHEBETHATGOODATCOMPOSING book.

I am disappointed that you left out the rhodes though, but by definition of hearing a godly song I should not be feeling any negativity for 24 hours. So it’s ok.

YES. This is the perfect song i need to listen to while killing bot posts. Thanks!

I LOVE it. Why was it formerly known as “The Cannon Recoil Project”?

Oh, they’re still there if you want them, on sheets 0 and 1.

Because it was originally this.(Note the song ID, it’s pretty old)

Them Fenders were godly.

Now that I’ve got a bit more time, I think a can get a review out. But first things first, why hasn’t this been featured yet? There, I just did.

Okay, so the intro. It really showcases what I love so much about the Rock Organ, how amazing it sounds with high AND low notes, especially in the weirder chords (I.E. The third chord, a G sus2). I also love all the organs in Notessimo because they are really great at slides, more so than any guitar ironically. So good job introducing the main idea of the song and the epic metal guitar riff that follows.

Once the bass and drums came in, I was a bit surprised that you used Bass #3, but I agree that it fits the song, in fact I may think that when used quickly like it was, it may be a better fit in all metal. Still, it was a bit lacking in presence through-out the song, but I think it was a fine job. Drums were simple, nothing to brag about. The fills were quite good, and overall I felt they were fine, if a little boring. In any case, they didn’t distract from the song itself, so job well done there too.

Now, the flow of the song was well executed, so the repetition is much more tolerable. The chorus was fun to listen to, as were all of the parts that had the organ playing front and center. Only real problem is that all of the organ parts feel the same somehow, which is what made some of the song feel repetitious, but as I said, flow was well executed.

On to the parts I’m sure everyone loved best. The solos. Again, well executed, and very balanced. Loved the electric guitar backing the fender up, it goes without saying that the fender is too light up high for metal solos if played on it’s own. And just like I wanted, there was a quieted part in the middle to really bring out the solo. As an added bonus, the two guitars started playing their own separate parts together, a really fun thing to listen to.

Outro was great, though I’m not too sure what sheet 18 is all about…in fact, you could have made the intro a likeness of sheet 18 instead of having so much power in the beginning, and it would have really sold the song a little better. I still love the intro, but having there makes me question the reasoning for sheet 18, when sheet 10 did a great job wrapping things up.

The best part about this song is clearly how well it flows and thus allowing for more radical add-ons to just about everything. 4.1/5, and I loved sheets 0-8, they really show how the song progressed.

Hmm…after this song, I am seriously considering challenging you to a collab/solo battle. Maybe after one of my current collabs clears up.

Thanks for the review, StarWars!

How dare you call the IVsus2 chord “weird”! The IVsus2 chord is, like, the second best chord ever, runner-up only to the I chord (because not having a I chord would really suck). I kid, I kid. But seriously, sheet 18…

I just sort of plopped it down one day and said to myself “Ah, what the heck, throw it in.” It was a bit of a reference/“take that” to songs with unnecessarily long or unusual outros (see “Sing It Out” by Switchfoot). Should I have left it out? Probably. Do I regret not doing it? No.

Well I guess weird isn’t the right word. It’s just shorter than saying “the set of chords that AREN’T Major or Minor.” And the outro wasn’t bad, to me it just felt a little weird, because on my first go I didn’t even notice it, as I stopped the song before it played. That’s why I mentioned it.

Anywho, I happen to have a song here! It’s a collab between me and Sandalman, hope you guys enjoy!

Just FYI:

  1. I put my name in the title to signify who started the collab, which was Sandal.
  2. Dotted eighth notes are a large part of this song, which inspired the name.
  3. For the solo, Fender=Sandal, Electric=me. For the organ solo, Sandal did sheet 0 and the second half of sheet 19.

Star, we have one of the weirdest chords in that song.

I remember when that was the standard here at notessimo.

Way to show us how its done guys!

That was very good. I didn’t like the last chord though.

Yeah, I will admit we sorta rushed the ending after the solo was finished.

And I guess you’re right Sandal…I doubt I’ll ever figure out what chord that is…

All this left is…whistles
