… I used a lvl 15 Onix for Rock Climb and Strength, but he didn’t battle (and if he did, surely a KO would be in store for him). Then the next day, I got Platinum (finlay).
I chose Chimchar and I’m at Veilstone City, about to battle Maylene.

Either leveling up in Platinum is easy, or I’m finally doing it right.
I got leaf green again. I chose Charmander, so Brock is really hard X(
yeah, one of the only downside to carmander as a starter, I usually grind or fight brock until charmander learns metal claw, than youre overleveled AND able to win!
I’ve had that move for 5 levels now, and he still kills me in 2 hits. In fact, I could be a charmeleon now.
potions… Potions! POTIONS!!! Well if you use HM slaves, you’ve probably caught rattata for cut, use him as a decoy, and heal up charmander. Use more than one if neccesary. I usually dont have that much trouble with Brock, even when I have charmander.
So:
I have about 40 health… potions heal 20… he hits me and I’m at 20, I use a potion, and I’m back at 40. He hits me again and I’m back down to 20. I use potion again and I’m back at 40. he hits me again and I’m back down to 20… this isn’t working.
I can’t switch out becuase I still go down to 20 becuase he gets the first move when I put Charmander back in…
I’ve caught a rattata, a pidgey, and a pichachu! (awesomeness on that last one!)
well, all I can see you doing is taking up the annoying task of grinding in the wild so you can evolve, that’s the only descision you really have at this point, unless you want to start the game over with squirtle or bulbasaur.
I’ve always evolved my starter by the first gym leader.
I chose Charmander too. Brock was freaking easy.
One of my Pokemon [I think it was Pidgey or Pikachu] learned Sand-Attack, spammed it, and used Charmander’s Metal Claw to finish them off. I had a few potions just in case too.
I stopped my pokemon from evolving until during the gym leader.
And I just one! I got lucky and Onix only used rock tomb once. He used every single turn on the last tries 
Also, Has any one else had a female starter pokemon? My charmander is a girl
What level was your Charmander?! Also I never use pokemon in fights besides my starter… Mine was level 15 before she could survive one hit from Onix.
There’s actually a one in eight chance of your starter being female.
Giratina is a troll in Platinum.
Sand-Attack/Double Team are troll moves.
